Deze nieuwe performance van Laurie Anderson ging op 27 okt 2024 in premiere en is geinspireerd op C. P. Cavafy 's gedicht : 'Waiting for the Barbarians' (Engelse vertaling uit het Grieks door Evangelos Sachperoglou). De voorstelling werd opgenomen in de Saint Thomas Church in New York City.

Lang geleden dat ik jullie nog eens talent uit Hamme heb voorgesteld. Ook lang geleden dat ik hier nog muziek heb gepost, trouwens.
Daar ga ik nu dus even wat aan doen =]

Deze clip is er eentje om jullie een vroeger cellomaatje, Joke Flecijn, met wie ik samen nog les volgde te Hamme, aan jullie voor te stellen.
Zij post nauwelijks op youtube, vandaar dat ik haar hier nog nooit heb vermeld.
Zij is ondertussen uitgegroeid tot een virtuose met een eigen kwartet en woont momenteel in Bremen. Ik heb een aantal mooie muzikale herinneringen aan haar overgehouden waarvoor ik haar langs deze weg graag nog eens wil bedanken. 
Samen met haar Canea Quartett begeleidt ze in deze clip de Berlijnse componiste en performer Lisa Morgenstern bij haar project "The Wind Tunnel Session". 
Na wat opzoekingswerk vond ik de locatie waar de opnames plaatsvonden. 
Een intrigerende plek:

De "Trudelturm" genaamd; Deze wervelwindtunnel werd tussen 1932 en 1934 gebouwd door het Duitse Luchtvaartonderzoeksinstituut op wat ooit het vliegveld Berlijn-Johannisthal was, gelegen in de wijk "Adlershof" in het voormalige "Oostduitse" deel van Berlijn.
Van 1934 tot 1936 (dus vóór Berlijn in twee werd gedeeld) werd deze "Trudelturm" gebruikt om te onderzoeken hoe men kon voorkomen dat vliegtuigen die nadat ze in een wervelwind terecht kwamen ter aarde stortten. De locatie is sedert 1950 min of meer in de vergetelheid geraakt, wegens niet langer operationeel, maar dook dankzij Rammstein weer op in de actualiteit omdat zij hier de beelden voor de hoes van hun nieuwste album "Zeit" hebben geschoten.
De akoestiek, zoals je in het clipje onder de link al kon waarnemen, is er groots. Ben je ook benieuwd hoe Lisa Morgenstern en Joke Flecijn's Canea Quartett er klinkt? Luister dan naar bovenstaande opname.

I stood in a deep snowy, foggy field many years ago and recognized structures of a former village that I later learned had been burned to the ground during the 30 Years’ War. I had an enormously strong déjà vu, as if I had been there before - perhaps even in another lifetime." 

"SPACESUIT’s harmonies were inspired by Bulgarian folklore. I asked the Bulgarian Voices Berlin choir to sing several chord progressions in slow motion, which sounded almost otherworldly. It made me imagine what it must be like to float around the endless universe, forever. It would probably not be entirely pleasant, but certainly fascinating."
